Writer : Bill Cain Producer : Ojai Playrights Conference Venue : Zalk Theatre Character : Jesse "I play Jesse, a gay priest, which from my experience has always been sort of a contradiction in terms but what I've come to realize from working on this play is that sometimes the people who go against the dictates of the Catholic Church are often the most strongly spiritual people around. And so you're dealing with the actual religion and the sort of political structure of the Catholic Church as well as you are dealing with the spiritual life of these people who are sort of questioning who they are."

| | Producer : City Theatre Company Venue : City Theatre, Pittsburgh Character : Clifford Writer : Warren Leight Summary : A memory play about a jazz musician and his wife and son. The play is a Tony Award winner. Zach was still at university when he appeared in the play. Probably I'm the readier to declare Clifford central because, in Zachary Quinto, director Kiselov has found such a good Clifford compared to some of the nonactors (Jason Priestley!) who have played the role in New York and London. Quinto is a gem of focus. You don't always notice him in much of Act 1, given the rich comedy of everyone else, but when you do, you'll see with what delicacy he watches his own youthful parents. And in his climactic scene with Gene, he unloads all the emotion the play has carefully hoarded. - Christopher Rawson, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette |
Venue : LA Shakespeare Festival / Vineyard Playhouse Writer : William Shakespeare Producer : LA Shakespeare Festival Character : Borachio Summary : A comedy about the relationships and misunderstandings between a group of young people at an Italian Villa. Borachio conspires to make the hero believe that his lover is being unfaithful. Borachio means 'drunkard' in Italian!

Producer : City Theatre Company
Writer : Moises Kaufman
Venue : City Theatre, Pittsburgh
Character : Rent boy
Summary : The play depicts the trials of Oscar Wilde for 'gross indecency' using real transcripts from the trial itself.
Darren Focareta, Zachary Quinto, Jon Skovron and Daniel Krell play the sleazy rent boys ("gilded snakes," Wilde calls them), as well as everybody else, with admirable variety and spunk. Even their accents are pretty good, the various middle- and lower-class ones reminding us that Wilde's persecution was a classist witch hunt, in which the aristocracy calculatingly offered him up as a sacrifice to demagogic Puritanism. - Christopher Rawson, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
Writer : William Shakespeare Producer : Carnegie-Mellon University Venue : Kresge Theater, CMU Character : Unknown Quinto and Swift give their courting pair the articulate, acerbic sparkle that make them worthy precursors of the more famous Benedick and Beatrice. - Christopher Rawson, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette |

A comedy about a man who falls in love with a Mermaid in the Central Park lake but who makes the mistake of introducing her to his best friend.
Producer : Taper New Works Festival Venue : Mark Taper Forum, LA Character : Unknown Writer : Unknown |
Writer : Anton Chekhov
Character : Smirnoff (?)
Venue : Galway, Ireland
A farce centering on a landowner and a widow still mourning her husband. As the short play is a two hander we suspect Zach must have played Smirnoff, the landowner, but this might not be accurate
Writer : Gilbert and Sullivan Producer : Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera Venue : Benedum Centre, Pittsburgh Character : Major General Stanley Character's solo songs : "I Am The Very Model Of A Modern Major-General" ; "Oh, men of dark and dismal fate"; Summary : The Pirates of Penzance is a comic opera. Zachary played the Major-General who manages to win back his daughter from the clutches of pirates before having a change of heart when he realises that they are good men. For this role Zach won the Gene Kelly Award for Excellence in High School Musical Theatrem, in the category of Best Supporting Actor. |
